Saturday 9th July 2005
Lough Farm, Carlisle opened its gates to a new venture when Harness Racing once again hit Carlisle for the first time in a decade. The crowd enjoyed nine really competitive races on a superb track with first class facilities and weather to match.
The highlight of the days racing being Race 3, The Double Seal Carlisle Pace, which was fought out by two Cumbrian horses - Mr Charlie Kirk's Dancing Rocket, and Mr James Winter's Sun Dancer, the crowd cheering as these two equine atheletes fought out a very tight finish, with Dancing Rocket holding on to defeat the gallant Sun Dancer by the shortest of heads. Dancing Rocket then went on to win the George Newton Builder's Open Handicap Final.
The Park family have done an excellent job in revitalizing the sport of Harness Racing in this area to create an excellent days racing. Many thanks must go to the generous sponsors and helpers and to the Eden Valley Harness Racing Association who provided the officials and stewards.
The next meeting at Lough Farm will be Saturday, 20 August 2005 starting 2.30pm
